More MJ…

I know everyone here might be at a saturation point by now about MJ, but when I read this it made a lot of sense to me on some level, maybe cuz it speaks more about the man and the raw musical genius than the media caricature that his later years became… anyways, I enjoyed it.

Classy the name of the site isn’t, but these recording engineers and studio professionals do pay very nice and earnest respects to the King. Highlights include:
1) pie-throwing,
2) orchestral arpeggiation with a tape recorder and his voice,
3) his dislike of cursing, and
4) my fave: he apparently loved NIN’s The Downward Spiral. Man, to be a fly on the wall and hear that go down if he was singing along.
No idea about the authenticity of this of course, but I did find it posted on HearYa, big thanks to them for a great find. It’s also a great blog with some killer live sessions (like this one with Blind Pilot, also you can follow HearYa here on Twitter).
Sean
P.S. Totally cliche, but if you want/need to smile, look up Moonwalk on Youtube. I lost 2 hours tonight with that to blame.

I’m such a jerk.

Says it all, I have done this so many times now.

Quimby the Mouse and Andrew the Bird

Love the antique display typeface work and the opening and closing credits, fun lil film about a mouse and his head (?). Andrew Bird gets down with the get-down Gypsy-style in the background.

Thanks Pitchfork:

Andrew Bird’s “Eugene” provides the soundtrack for video starring Chris Ware’s Quimby the Mouse. The clip, animated by John Kuramoto, is a promo for an upcoming live staging of Ira Glass’ incomparable NPR show, “This American Life”.

Auto Tune in the Workplace

Absolutely killer, well-played sir.

The Longest Interview of Jim Cramer’s Life

In my mind, Jon Stewart is an American hero simply for giving the last 8 years a humorous spin; I know I needed it on the daily. Tonight was more than comedy, tonight was truth and it was glorious, hard hitting and cathartic. Jon should be commended in that he:

a) doesn’t let people get away with lies and question-ducking,

b) does not relent from the facts even when they are about to cry (Cramer is DEF choked up at least twice I noticed), and

c) gives the guest a chance to talk (in this case Cramer really had nothing to say) and does not resort to bully tactics like an O’Reilly/Hannity-type figure surely would.

Jim Cramer is not the only person who deserves to be asked these questions. But this interview shows what  the actual media COULD BE DOING instead of having a guest on, asking them one question about something and taking their word for it with no follow ups, and then moving on to celebrity coverage or talking about Twitter like they were the first people to discover it.

It just fills me with pride for our free press and those that actually choose to exercise their right to ask “why?” And ask it again. And again.

It’s not all Cramer’s fault of course, but in this case indifference is basically compliance. This is only a clip. check out the full interview as it will be up sometime tomorrow (Friday, March 12th) on The Daily Show’s website. Update: The full interview is below now as well in three clips for your consumptive viewing pleasure.
